Neeta Ragoowansi is Co-Founder and Senior Vice President, Business Development & Legal Affairs for USA based company, NPREX (National Performing Rights Exchange), the first-ever online platform/marketplace for the direct licensing of music performance rights, between music copyright owners and music users (e.g. radio, TV, streaming services, bars/clubs/venues, etc.)
Neeta has been an entertainment attorney and music business professional for over 25 years, with the last 14 years primarily focused on music licensing and rights administration. Neeta was formerly in senior management and Director of Artist-Label Relations at digital performance rights society, SoundExchange; President of Women in Music; Vice President of Business Development & Legal Affairs at TuneSat; and Assistant General Counsel for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC. Neeta also provided consulting services to the financial sector on music industry related topics including those involving digital streaming services, performance rights organizations, record labels, music publishing, and music rights administration services, and served as legal counsel, strategic advisor, and business development resource to a variety of clients in her New York based private law practice, including Grammy award winning, major label and independent recording artists; technology start-ups; and music, television and theatrical production companies, as well as music publishers, composers, digital marketing companies, record labels, producers, venues, royalty agents, and talent managers, among others. In addition, Neeta served as General Counsel for the Songwriters Association of Washington, DC and the national and international 48 Hour Film Festivals. Neeta currently serves on the boards of Women in Music, The Recording Academy (Grammy organization)/New York Chapter, and the American Bar Association’s Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries, as well as the advisory board of start-up, indie.ninja.
Neeta has served as a panellist/speaker at over 200 industry conferences including SXSW, Midem, CMJ, Billboard Latin and R&B/Hip Hop, Digital Entertainment Worldwide (DEW), SF Music Tech, Folk Alliance International, Americana Music Conference, LORT (League of Regional Theaters), Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP), American Bar Association’s Forum on Entertainment and Sports Law Annual Meetings and their annual Miami Symposiums on International Entertainment and Sports Law, and the Future of Music Policy Summit.
Neeta received her B.A. from Emory University, Atlanta, GA and her J.D. from American University, Washington, DC, as well as attended Georgetown University as part of their LL.M., International Law program and University College, Oxford, UK for two terms.
Neeta’s passion for the music business is founded on her own personal passion. She is an actively performing musician with her band, Oxymorons, has recorded numerous recordings through the years and earned first prize in the Rock Category of the Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Competition (USA), as well as an honourable mention in Billboard’s Songwriting Contest. Neeta has performed for Oscar winning actors and members of the United States Congress, and to crowds of 80,000+ people, as well as opened for several Grammy award-winning artists.
