He shaped his career in Companies such as Asian Paints and Procter & Gamble before moving into the Entertainment Industry in 1996 as part of the ‘Dream Team’ that launched Sony Music in India. As Director Sales, Rajat put in place systems and processes that not only catapulted Music Albums released from the Company into overnight ‘Chartbusters’, but also set benchmarks which remain Gold Standards for the Industry till date. He was then picked up by Universal Music, to head its Indian Subsidiary as the Managing Director in 2003. As a young 40 year old MD, Rajat transformed the loss making entity very quickly into a profitable unit with market share leadership in key categories. He introduced many International Artistes to stupendous success in the Indian Market and helped open up the International Touring business in India. He led the Company to ride the digital revolution and drive cutting edge innovations. Rajat was brought back by Sony in a role that consolidated Music, Movies and Games distribution in the Indian market. He quickly expanded the mandate to include Global Entertainment giants such as Sony, Warner, and Disney alongside Saregama and Zee Music to name a few to create India’s largest Physical Distribution entity under Sony DADC. This model is now being replicated in China and the European market with guidance from him.
