Being born to an Indian Classical musician and a war veteran in Chennai, drumming was a far-fetched idea and not a natural extension of Rahul' s environment. The very act of pursuing this as a career for a 20 year old was an entrepreneurial challenge. Rahul is a completely self taught drummer and he lives his dream with renewed passion each day. Having played a wide range of music and styles Rahul has developed his own unique identity that is defined by his ethnic and cultural roots. The sophisticated rhythmic articulation of the Mridangam alongside western attitude towards rhythm has deeply influenced his playing. He plans on creating a musical project with a spirit that is a melting pot of both these worlds that are rich in culture , tradition and artistry. Having played with the likes of Arijit Singh, Sonu Nigam, A.R. Rahman, Shalmali Kholghade, Benny Dayal and Jonita Gandhi, Rahul has emerged as one of the top session drummers in the country.
Beyond the craft of drumming as a performance, Rahul is currently investing his time, energy and resources into the craft of drum production and content creation. An avid drum collector, he also has a fascination for availing a range of microphones to be able to experiment with his recording process.
